Southern Fuel Limited was established in the year 1993. This is the first Low Ash Metallurgical Coke oven plant that had setup in South India. This plant is basically bee hive type non recovery coke oven plant commenced at Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu.
The shortfall in indigenous coke supply in India is estimated at 1.25 million tonnes currently, and is expected to go up to 1.75 million tonnes in the next five years.
